Requesting access

How to get a portal account, and what to do when you can sign in but can't see a page.

Before you ask

You sign in with the email account your department issued you, not a personal address. If you don't have a department account yet, get that set up first.

Ask for access

Ask a company officer or the portal administrator. Include:

  • your name and your department email address
  • your role (for example firefighter, EMS, officer or driver)
  • which company or district you respond for, if it isn't BTVFC

Your access is tied to your account's groups, so once you're added there is nothing to install or set up. Sign out and sign back in to pick up the change.

When something doesn't work

  • “This email address isn't recognized” when you sign in means the address isn't from a department the portal knows. Check that you typed your department email, not a personal one.
  • You can sign in but a page says you don't have permission, or a menu item is missing: your account doesn't have that access yet. Ask for it as above. Open Diagnostics from the gear menu and include what it lists under your groups; that tells the administrator what your account has.
  • “Your session has expired” is normal. Sign-ins last a few days; sign in again to carry on.
Sign-in is handled by your department's account provider, so the portal never sees your password. Password resets go through your department, not the portal.
